"TWENTY PERCENT WIND ENERGY BY 2030: THE WINDS OF CHANGE"
by Doug Adams, Purdue University

Abstract

The US became the largest producer of wind energy in 2008 and has now
reached 35,000 MW of installed electricity capacity, which accounts
for 1.7% of all electricity generated and enough power to supply 9.5
million homes. As wind energy penetrates deeper into the nation's
power grid in the coming years, the performance and reliability of
wind turbines will become increasingly important. This talk will
highlight some of the trends in wind energy and technical challenges
and solutions that are being pursued in wind power technology. The
talk will encourage questions and discussion about wind power and its
role in the energy landscape of the US.
